State plans to better support tech sector
The SC Department of Commerce recently released the second edition of the South Carolina Innovation Plan which includes recommendations for how the state can better support the advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and technology industries. The SC Council on Competitiveness was one of 17 organizations asked to serve on an Innovation Steering Committee that had the opportunity to provide input into the state’s plan.
The Innovation Plan lists several recommendations including creating a statewide marketing strategy, providing more financing options for existing companies and startups, and reviewing incentive packages to entice more companies to relocate and expand in the state.
Commerce hopes to build on the success of the manufacturing industry in the state, while also recognizing the unique needs of the innovation and technology-related industries.
