SC BIO hosts Life Sciences Industry Day and Life Sciences Startup University
SC BIO hosted its Life Science Industry Day on Feb. 24 at the Capital City Club in Columbia. The event featured Robert Popovian, senior director of governmental affairs at Pfizer, Inc., and David Dodd, CEO of Aeterna Zentaris in Charleston. Popovian spoke on pharmaceutical pricing as a cost-value proposition while Dodd covered the difficult journey from discovery to therapy.
In addition to its Life Sciences Industry Day, SC BIO also hosted “Life Sciences Startup University” Feb. 25 at the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business in Columbia.
Featured guest presenters included David Dodd, Marty Bauer, managing director of The Iron Yard Ventures, and Patrick Carter, co-founder and CMO of Chartspan. The day-long event was broken into three modules featuring three speakers each. The modules included: IP, Tech Transfer and Licensing Strategies; Company Formation, Business Plan and Building a Team; and Charting a Regulatory Pathway and Getting Reimbursement. The day ended with a lunch session titled “Real Beginning and Real Stories,” which focused on the stories of three SC BIO Quick Start companies.
