Ready to meet the newest member of South Carolina’s technology family? We need your help naming our new Robotic Dog, currently named “Spot,” from Boston Dynamics!
While Spot is meant to support companies in industrial applications, such as automated inspections and data capture, we will travel with Spot to schools and communities around South Carolina to show off the future of Artificial Intelligence, Industry 4.0 (and beyond!) technology, and other STEM-related career paths.
So now it’s up to you! Help us give our new friend a unique name that captures its abilities, functions, and character. SPOT may not remain Yellow, so feel free to get creative with color options too! You can learn more about the original SPOT here and get more information that may make your naming ideas easier. Feel free to check out its dance moves, too! (Click Here for SPOT at the 2022 SC Manufacturing Conference)
Any school, classroom, or community group is welcome to submit name ideas. Submissions will remain open until May 1, 2023. A group of judges will choose a winning name, and the winning submission will be recognized at a ceremony in Columbia on May 19th. Along with naming rights, the winning submission will have the opportunity to hang out with “Spot” and the SC Competes team at their home base before scheduling is opened up statewide.
This program is in partnership with SC Department of Commerce and made possible, in part, with funding provided by SC Governor Henry McMaster.
